“Faith That Stops Heaven”
Part Five of Series
Text: Mark 10:46–52 NKJV
46Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
48Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?”Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
52 “Go,”said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.”Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
This echoes beautifully with the story of blind Bartimaeus. I want to paint a visual for you this morning!
Theme: There is a kind of faith so bold, so desperate, so confident in God’s mercy that heaven stops to respond. Bartimaeus shows us what faith looks like when it refuses to be silenced.
INTRODUCTION
Church, there are moments in Scripture where faith does more than receive a blessing — it interrupts heaven. It arrests the attention of God. It causes Jesus Himself to stop in His tracks.
Mark 10 tells us about a blind man named Bartimaeus. He had no sight, no status, no position, and no influence. But he had something heaven responds to — faith.
And when Bartimaeus cried out, Jesus — the Son of God, the Creator of the universe, the One who holds all things together — stood still.
Faith stopped heaven.
Today, I want to show you what kind of faith gets God’s attention… what kind of faith makes Jesus stand still… what kind of faith pulls miracles into your moment.
I. FAITH THAT STOPS HEAVEN, BEGINS WITH DESPERATION FOR JESUS
Text: Mark 10:47 — “When he heard that it was Jesus… he began to cry out…”
Bartimaeus was blind, but he heard Jesus was near. He refused to miss his moment.
Faith begins when you recognize:
- Your need
- His ability
- Your opportunity
Bartimaeus didn’t whisper. He didn’t wait. He didn’t hesitate. He cried out.
He cried out because he knew Jesus was his only hope.
Preaching Moment: Some breakthroughs only come when your cry becomes louder than your condition.
