Planting Season
Hosea 10:12
Reap in mercy;
Break up your fallow ground,
For it is time to seek the LORD,
Till He comes and rains righteousness on you
Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap in mercy: Israel had sown the seed of sin, and they would soon reap judgment from God. Even now, if they would sow righteousness, they would reap in mercy at the next harvest.
Proverbs 21:3 (NKJV)
To do righteousness and justice Is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
Isaiah 1:17 NKJVLearn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.
James 1:27 NKJVPure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
To sow righteousness means to love people, not just in word, but also in deed.
Your past is gone and done. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Begin sowing righteousness for the harvest to come.
Lamentations 3:22
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
23They are new every morning;Great is Your faithfulness.
Spiritual Symbolism
Prophets used this metaphor to explain the condition of a person's faith:
-
- The Hardness: Just as unplowed dirt becomes compacted by weather and foot traffic, a person's heart can become hardened by unconfessed sin, bitterness, or the distractions of life.
- The Weeds: Unused land naturally grows thorns. Spiritually, this represents bad habits or worldly pursuits taking over a person's life.
- Breaking Up: "Breaking up" the fallow ground requires the difficult, intentional work of repentance and self-examination. It softens the heart so that the "seed" (the Word of God) can take root and grow
Breaking up the fallow ground reminds me so much of Jesus' parable of the sower and the seed.
The season of fallow ground is over. Be renewed in the Holy Spirit to do the work He has called you to do.
SEEK the LORD
These words remind us of how we break up the fallow ground. We do it by seeking the LORD, not our self or idols.
Isaiah 58
1 “Cry aloud, [a]spare not;
Lift up your voice like a trumpet;
Tell My people their transgression,
And the house of Jacob their sins.
2 Yet they seek Me daily,
And delight to know My ways,
As a nation that did righteousness,
And did not forsake the ordinance of their God.
They ask of Me the ordinances of justice;
They take delight in approaching God.
3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and You have not seen?
Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?’
“In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure,
And [b]exploit all your laborers.
4 Indeed you fast for strife and debate,
And to strike with the fist of wickedness.
You will not fast as you do this day,
To make your voice heard on high.
5 Is it a fast that I have chosen,
A day for a man to afflict his soul?
Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush,
And to spread out sackcloth and ashes?
Would you call this a fast,
And an acceptable day to the Lord?
6 “Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the [c]heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are [d]cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
“If you take away the yoke from your midst,
The [e]pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
10 If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul,
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your [f]darkness shall be as the noonday.
11 The Lord will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
12 Those from among you
Shall build the old waste places;
You shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach,
The Restorer of [g]Streets to Dwell In.
13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord honorable,
And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,
14 Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord;
And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth,
And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
The mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Matthew 7: 7
“ Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who keeps on asking receives, and he who keeps on seeking finds, and to him who keeps on knocking, it will be opened
You may ask, “How long should I pray about my situation?”
Until….
How many times do I have to forgive and help a weaker brother or sister?
Until…..
How do I know when to stop praying for divine healing or a miracle?
Pray Until the Lord comes into your situation!
Evidence you’ve been in the rain of righteousness!
- Radical Compassion for the Vulnerable: It would look like churches, communities, and individuals taking practical steps to care for the poor, the orphan, and the oppressed without ulterior motives.
- Honesty and Impartiality. Bribery, exploitation, and favoritism would be replaced by fairness, and wealth would be stewarded with generosity rather than greed.
- Personal Character Overhaul: Individuals experiencing this "rain" would display the fruits of the Spirit—such as love, joy, peace, and patience—in their daily routines. It means someone who previously struggled with anger, bitterness, or selfishness developing a genuine, Christ-like concern for their neighbors and enemies.
- Healing of Broken Relationships: Just as physical rain softens hard, cracked ground, a rain of righteousness softens hardened hearts. Practically, this would manifest as widespread reconciliation, forgiveness in broken families, and peace replacing hostility between divided groups or communities.
It is time for a greatcolossal sowing of seeds of righteousness because your next tomorrow’s, next week’s, next month’s, next season’s, and maybe even next year’s bounty will be baskets full and overflowing with mercy and righteousness over your life.
Planting Season begins today!
I declare a bountiful harvest! I believe for fertile, well-prepared soil!
