Ephesians 6:10-11, 13
10. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
11. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
13. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
I Corinthians 16:13 NKJV
Paul says to the Corinthians
13. “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.”
II Thessalonians 2:15 NKJV
He also reminds the Thessalonians
15. “Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.”
Job 37:14 NKJV
In the midst of Job’s many afflictions and trials, God says,
14. “Listen to this, O Job; Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.”
Ephesians 6:11-12 NKJV
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
1. The Devil is Real
John 10:10 NKJV
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.
“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
God is love; the devil is hate.
God is truth; the devil is the father of lies.
God is rest; the devil is eternal torment.
God is communion; the devil is utter loneliness.
God is light; the devil is outer darkness.
Every believer is in a spiritual battle with the devil whether they realize it or not.
2. Remember #1 and that HE is our enemy.
Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
We do not wrestle against humans.
We do not fight flesh and blood with flesh and blood.
We are fighting against the plans of the devil.
We fight unseen with unseen.
We fight other-worldly powers with other-worldly power!
I Peter 5:8 NKJV
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
II Corinthians 11:14 NKJV
“And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.”
The devil will take us
- further than we wanted to go,
- keep us longer than we wanted to stay, and
- cost us way more than we wanted to pay.
3. Supernatural Help - The Armour of God
How can we stand when we have such a great foe?
Ephesians 6:13-18 NKJV
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
- Belt of Truth – counters Satan’s lies (John 8:44).
- Breastplate of Righteousness – guards the heart; we stand in Christ’s righteousness (2 Cor. 5:21).
- Shoes of the Gospel of Peace – stability in knowing we have peace with God (Rom. 5:1).
- Shield of Faith – quenches fiery darts of doubt, fear, and temptation.
- Helmet of Salvation – protects the mind; assures us of victory in Christ (1 Thess. 5:8).
- Sword of the Spirit (Word of God) – our only offensive weapon; Jesus used it to defeat Satan in the wilderness (Matt. 4:1–11)
You cannot fight spiritual battles unarmed.
Put on the full armor daily.
4. Just Stand as a Watchman
Ephesians 6:18 NKJV
“praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
Ephesians 6:13-14 NKJV
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand … ”
